What Is a Ductless Mini-Split System?
A ductless mini-split has an outdoor compressor connected to one or more indoor air handlers. There is no ductwork. Refrigerant lines run through a small hole in the wall to connect the units. Each indoor unit can be controlled on its own, so you get room-by-room temperature control.
How it works
- Outdoor unit compresses refrigerant
- Refrigerant travels through small lines to the indoor unit(s)
- The indoor unit pushes conditioned air directly into the space
- Each zone can be set to its own temperature
- Quiet, efficient, and no ducts required
When a Ductless System Makes Sense in Hammond
Room additions
Adding a bedroom, sunroom, or bonus room? Extending existing ductwork is often expensive and inefficient. A mini-split is usually the cleaner, more cost-effective fix.
Older Hammond homes without ducts
Many homes built before the 1970s have no ductwork. Installing ducts in these homes is invasive and expensive. Mini-splits cool them effectively without a major renovation.
Garages and workshops
Hammond's summer heat makes garages and workshops unbearable. A single-zone mini-split keeps the space comfortable without tying into your home's main system.

Home offices and bonus rooms
Spaces that your existing system cannot adequately cool are great candidates for a dedicated mini-split.
Server rooms and commercial spaces
Spaces that generate heat (server rooms, commercial kitchens, equipment rooms) benefit from dedicated cooling that does not compete with the building's main HVAC.
Energy efficiency goals
Mini-splits are among the most energy-efficient cooling options available. Without ductwork there is no duct leakage, which can account for 20 to 30 percent of cooling loss in traditional systems.
